Load Bearing Wall Removal Austin
Thanks for visiting our load bearing wall removal Austin post! Removing load bearing walls is a difficult part of any remodel. However, the lack of connection between the living room and back yard made this necessary. As you can see, the living room window looked out to a desolate and isolated outdoor space.
We are just diy remodelers, and only rarely do a project. We enjoy sharing ideas with our friends and clients. If you need somebody, and not just anybody, to help you find a home or get your home sold, we’d love to hear from you! We’re full time Realtors with over 30 years experience in Austin real estate.
This is the inside of the living room. One window allowed a little view of a desolate outdoor space. We are going to remove load bearing wall and open this space to the outdoors.
In order to open this wall, a new beam had to be put in to support the roof. Of course we had an engineer size the beam, and a City of Austin permit.
We had to use some temporary supports before the actual framing.
Here, the new beam is in place. Now it is time to bring in the sliding glass door. We considered using French doors, but decided that a large slider, purchased at Lowes, would add more light. Already the outdoor space is more inviting. Without the wall opening, it was a dead end. This space is part of the view from the dining room and living room. It is the transition space from inside to outdoors.
As it turned out, the sliding glass door was indeed very large and heavy—weighing nearly 300 pounds! It took four strapping young (er, middle-aged) men to move it from the truck to the back of the house.
Now, it is going in. After a few final adjustments, the installation is officially complete.
The steps and garden area improve the small patio space, and add a connection to the back yard. Just having a little distant view makes interior spaces feel bigger. The living room is a room you want to be in – and that is truly what matters in house design!
