Ranch Style House Austin
Thanks for visiting our ranch style house Austin project. We had noticed this house for sale the Northwest Hills area – a part of Austin that we really like. For more photos of the original house see our fist visit post. We fell in love with the corner lot and tall oaks, but the house was just not usable, and had to go…
Here’s the original house coming down. At the time our tree guy, Javier Mendoza, was not busy. So he and friend took the place down and put it into a large dumpster. Some parts went to Habitat. It all went well, thank goodness.
Some parts of the foundation were kept, other parts were added.
Since the foundation was open, we ran new sewer lines.
We poured a layer of steel reinforced concrete over the existing foundation. This gave us a good layer of concrete for the finished floor.
When the concrete was dry enough to be walked on, they burnished it with a paddle machine to close the pores. This will be the finished floor after a wax coat is put on later.
We wanted the house to blend in with the neighborhood, which has a lot of traditional ranch style houses. These are one-story homes that are have horizontal feel. Board and batten siding works nicely with the one story ranch style house because it adds a vertical element.
Our new house is grounded in the traditional ranch style houses of the 1970’s – 1980’s. A traditional ranch style house typically has a low to the ground profile and lower pitched roof. In this tradition, we developed a more modern ranch style house.
A nice existing feature was the cobblestone patio on the side of the house. We related to this area by adding a door from the kitchen, plus a side porch, and cedar privacy screen.
Thanks for visiting our ranch style house Austin! We have more to follow as this home gets built. If you’re in the middle of a diy project, reach out to us. Construction projects are just an occasional hobby for us. We enjoy hearing about other people’s projects and sharing ideas.
And, if you need somebody, and not just anybody, to help you find a home or get your home sold, we’d love to hear from you! We’re full time Realtors!
